Meetings regarding physically/mentally challenged topics
sponsored by the White House were scheduled to commence this spring and
summer. They have been canceled. Reasons for this decision are unknown.
Meetings were supposed to take place in nine states across
country. These states included Ohio,
California, and Florida. Activists who
knew about the meetings confirmed cancellations by the White House.
Activists were first alerted to the meetings in late January. They were scheduled to begin in the middle of
March and last through the summer. No concrete
plans were ever put in place to make these meetings happen.
Chris Thomson, a member of United Cerebral Palsy, stated one
reason for meeting cancelations might be fear for protests. White House
representatives state they didn’t acknowledge meetings to the public. They also stated President Barack Obama’s
staff works with the physically/mentally challenged community cross country consistently.
