Jury Awards Mom $4.5 Million

Remember Ana Mejia the mom who sued her doctors for $9 million?  Well, the jury awarded her and her husband $4.5 million.  Their son, Bryan, was born with no arms and one leg.

Ana and her husband say if they knew about her son’s physical challenges, she would have had an abortion.  They went to the hospital in October 2008 assuming they would have an able-bodied boy.  The couple is pleased with the outcome.

The money will cover Bryan’s prosthesis.  It will also cover therapy, wheelchairs and attendants.  More importantly, said their attorney, it will put the couple’s minds at ease knowing Bryan is okay.

The doctors plan to appeal the verdict.  They say they aren’t responsible for ignoring Bryan’s symptoms.    Attorneys for the doctors state their clients want Bryan to have a happy and healthy life.
