150+ activists gathered at the White House to discuss physically/mentally
challenged topics. They discussed these
topics with White House representatives.
This event lasted a day and activists got a surprise: A Presidential
visit.
President Barack Obama gave a brief speech to the
activists. He was happy with the way advocates spoke out
against the significance of Medicaid. He
also assured activists more advocacy similar to that type is warranted.
“People with
disabilities deserve the chance to build a life for themselves in the
communities where they choose to live,” Obama said, adding that he supports
high education standards and employment opportunities for those with
physical/mental challenges.
Activists present at the White House for these discussions
were members of the Arc. There were also
people with physical/mental challenges as well as their support systems in
attendance. While present at the
discussion, President Obama listened to top members of the Justice Department
and activists regarding Medicaid.
